History

Our Roots

On October 1, 1999, the concept of Delta Kappa Delta came to fruition at the campus of Texas A&M University in College Station, Texas. At that time, Texas A&M University boasted a 40,000 plus student population, with less than five percent categorized as minorities.

B.E.T.I.S., Behind Every True Indian Sister, was created as the grass roots service organization prior to obtaining the Greek letters of Delta Kappa Delta. The National Founding Mothers realized the need to unite, serve, and educate the campus and community. Developing this vision would be arduous, but would begin the creation of a bond between these thirteen that will stand the test of time.

Through B.E.T.I.S., these women were able to spread and strengthen their ideals to other South Asian women on campus. In addition to serving the community with enthusiasm, the National Founding Mothers emphasized excellence in education, citizenship, culture, and Sisterhood.

Delta Kappa Delta Sorority has grown tremendously since inception, stretching its desire to serve to several cities in Texas as well as on the East Coast. These women have dedicated their hearts and souls to Service and Sisterhood, exemplifying the concept of “Sisterhood Built Through Service”. Through our goal for a brighter future, we begin our work with the purest of hearts - that of a child. In time, we hope that our work will benefit our communities and provide a lasting and prosperous future.

Six young and ambitious ladies had a vision which created a Sisterhood whose love, support, dedication, passion and motivation are endless. In January of 2004, six ladies at Temple University in Philadelphia began their arduous journey to realize the meaning of a true Sisterhood, their passion for service, and their quest to bring six different cultures of the Indian Subcontinent together. They yearned to reach souls by helping the community.

A sick child’s smile warmed our hearts,
A disabled teenager’s dedication lifted our spirits,
A home wished upon by an unlucky family gave us motivation,
A sad tear of a baby filled our hearts with passion,
A loud rouse of excitement from underprivileged children gave us support,
A large number of thank you’s, smiles and hugs from parents created our dedication,
The gift and blessing of a wonderful Sister, who served as a mentor, provided guidance, and The Sisterhood’s praise, love and encouragement served as our backbone.

Now as Sisters, they strive to pass on the traditions that were revealed during their association. The bond that these six ladies formed represents their dedication and perseverance to pass on the values instilled by the National Founding Mothers.
